Connect placement quality, referral behavior, and organic outcomes without attributing every change to links.
Counting acquired links is easy, but it says little about whether a campaign reached the right audience or supported business goals. Set measurement expectations before outreach begins.
Record the placement
Track the publisher, page URL, target page, publication date, link attributes, and the reason the placement is relevant. Note whether the page remains live at later review dates.
Measure useful signals
- Referral sessions and meaningful actions from the publisher page.
- Visibility and clicks for the linked destination over time.
- Quality and relevance of the referring page and audience.
- Progress toward the campaign goal, such as qualified visits or content discovery.
Keep attribution honest
Organic performance changes for many reasons, including content updates, technical fixes, seasonality, and competitors. Compare time periods carefully, annotate major changes, and avoid claiming a link caused a ranking movement without supporting evidence.
Use the findings to decide what to improve next: the destination page, prospect selection, editorial pitch, or measurement setup. A useful report explains what happened and what remains uncertain.
